The Brune Park community celebrate on results day

We are delighted to report that there has been significant improvement in examination performance across all curriculum areas.

This is against the picture of increased rigour of the reformed (9-1) GCSEs this year.

The performance in core subjects at Brune Park is much improved, where students achieving a ‘Standard’ Pass (grade 4) or better in English and Mathematics has increased. However, the number of students achieving ‘strong’ passes (grade 5 or above) has improved most significantly with a 12% and 7% increase in English and Maths respectively. Nearly half the students achieved at least a standard pass in both English and Maths.

44% of students studying the Science Trilogy course achieved a standard pass or better, an improvement of over 30% on last year’s results. There was more than a 50% improvement in the students studying the separate Sciences achieving a standard pass or higher, Biology 86%, Chemistry 84% and Physics 86%.

Students achieving standard passes or better has improved in a range of other subjects; Geography, French, Religious Studies, Physical Education, Design Tech, Health and Social Care, Art, Business, Computing, Performing Arts, Drama, Film Studies and Music, most of these by more than 10%.

More than 70% of students achieved a standard pass or better in Business Studies, Dance, Drama, Engineering, Food & Nutrition, Health & Fitness, Health & Social Care, IT User Skills, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Religious Studies and Workskills.

We congratulate our students for their fantastic effort and commitment, and there are many individuals who have achieved exceptional results across the subject range; Eloise Buck, Daniel Weatherhead, Alegria Tracey, Stephen Jacobs, Shuzeda Chowdhury, Harry Fresle, Alicia Bonas and Joseph Shaw to name just some.

A special mention to Chloe Davis who achieved the very highest grade 9s in English Literature, Science Trilogy, Geography, Dance, Drama, Grade 8s in Maths and Food and Nutrition as well as A* in the CeFe, and IT User Skills and a Distinction* in Engineering. A truly incredible performance and will place her amongst the highest achieving students in the country. We wish her well in continuing her studies at the GFM Sixth Form at Bay House.

Diane Coleman also deserves recognition for achieving the highest progress within the School, making on average more than 2 grades higher in every subject compared with her peers nationally. We wish her well too at our sixth form provision.

There are countless other individuals who have achieved personal success across the school for which they will be extremely proud, as we are of them.

The leadership team and staff at the school are committed to ensuring these results are a further step in our journey of continual improvement. We recognise there is significant work ahead but are fully committed to supporting every student to achieve their potential and aim for the very highest standards of academic success.

Dean Searley – Assistant Head teacher linked to the year group said:

“I’d like to say a massive congratulations to the students who worked so hard to achieve a set of results to be proud of. To see improvement in so many subject areas is a phenomenal achievement and shows that Brune Park is moving in the right direction. Today is a big step in delivering an outstanding education to the students in our community.”

Kirstie Andrew-Power – Head teacher said:

‘We are so proud of these successes because it shows what can be achieved through the hard work of the students with staff at the school, and through the support of parents and Brune Park community. Our school is at an exciting stage of further improvement.’
