Thank you for your support in allowing our children to receive a Lateral Flow Test before their return to lessons last week.
We have processed thousands of tests in the last week as well as running a combination of face-to-face and online lessons for all our learners. We are particularly grateful to the volunteers who have allowed us to continue running the Asymptomatic Test Centre (ATC) each day over the last week. We are delighted to confirm that we have found no positive cases in our community.
We continue, however, to recognise the importance of testing because up to one in three people who have COVID-19 can spread the virus without knowing. This is because they have no symptoms. To reduce the spread of the virus, we need to identify those individuals. We now need to balance the need to keep children in classrooms with administering further COVID-19 tests.
Later this week we will be writing to you to confirm details of how learners will be able to conduct Lateral Flow Tests at home under supervision using kits that will be distributed by the school. These tests will be supplemented by sampling and supervised testing in school (for those whose parents have given consent) in two smaller scale Asymptomatic Test Centres (ATCs) on the Brune Park and Bay House school sites.
