Keeping Safe

I’m sure that you have been watching and listening to the news about the protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, both in the US and here in the UK.

There is a lot of powerful content in circulation on social media, as well as the mainstream media and we all have to be thoughtful about what we consume and what we share.

I am also sure that you will be having discussions with your families and friends about what is happening. However, it can be difficult at times to know what to say and/or where to start talking about these matters; especially with children. With this in mind, please see the link below which will take you to a very well written blog by ‘The Learning Scientists’ entitled: Talking to Kids about Race – I do hope that you will find this useful.

There are currently various lessons going on across the secondary phase on what has happened with George Floyd and since; different departments from the different schools are also holding ‘live meetings’ for our pupils to attend if they would like to, giving them a place to ask questions and voice their opinions about what they have seen, heard and how they feel.

The GFM community is richer for its diversity. We are committed to building and sustaining a school community in which nobody suffers from prejudice as a result of their identity, whatever their race, class, gender, religion or sexuality.
