‘I’m over the moon!’ – STEM leader nominated for inspirational award

A huge congratulations to Kelly Munro who has been nominated for the Pamodzi Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Awards 2023.

The awards, now in their fifth year, is a collective which aims to ‘challenge, affirm and inspire’.

‘Pamazodi means together’ and the awards are set to celebrate unique women and recognise their hard work and the positive impact they have had on the community.

Ms Munro said: “I’m so excited to be nominated, it’s an honour.

“I do the job that I love to inspire the next generation of STEM enthusiasts. It is nice to get the recognition of all your hard work; championing a non-national curriculum subject can be challenging but my enthusiasm never waivers.

“I can teach students social skills, our Gosport Futures, the GFM Way, EHoM skills, they can take that and apply to any subject. I love watching them grow and develop as people and I’ve seen a big difference in students’ confidence.

“I am currently running a new ‘invention squad’. At first they thought they were just playing with Lego but now they realise they’re programming Lego, it’s technical, this Lego can talk.

“As teachers, how can we inspire? Every cog needs to turn in every business and it is all about working together. In STEM, it is such a unique opportunity.”

The ceremony is set to take place at the Guildhall, Portsmouth on 10 March.

Go Kelly – we wish you the best of luck!
