Action-Packed Author Visit at King’s Academy Brune Park!
King’s Academy Brune Park was buzzing on Friday 14th November as international best-selling author Chris Bradford visited our school. And when you’re asked to provide a thick crash mat for an author visit… you know it’s going to be anything but ordinary!
As a method writer, Chris fully immerses himself in the worlds of his characters. For his thrilling ‘Bodyguard’ series, he completed an intensive close protection course, becoming a qualified professional bodyguard trained in surveillance, anti-ambush techniques, hostage survival, and unarmed combat.
Year 7 and Year 8 pupils were instantly gripped by his interactive readings, learning the skills needed to keep famous people safe using clever protection techniques. The excitement didn’t stop there—during a special workshop Chris plunged pupils into the dramatic world of a young samurai, giving a live demonstration of his katana and adding a fascinating insight into the history of Japanese culture.
Pupils also had the chance to get books signed and ask Chris their burning questions. Mrs Hawksworth, our school librarian, was thrilled with the energy the visit generated:
“The pupils responded so positively to this event. Author visits can have a lasting impact and may spark a love of reading, writing, or even inspire new career ideas—they are so important!”
A huge thank you to Chris Bradford for inspiring our students to dive into reading adventures. Don’t forget—you can borrow his books from the school library!
