The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department teaches French and Spanish at KS3 and KS4. Students are taught the basic skills of studying a language in the form of listening, reading, speaking and writing each lesson. Students use these skills throughout KS3 and can transfer them if they opt for a language at GCSE. Students are set homework on the Languagenut website, encouraging a blended learning approach. In class we have French and Spanish foreign language assistants, to give students a taste of life in France or Spain and to practise their speaking skills.
The MFL department aims to make languages accessible to all learners, through a variety of methods including, language games, videos and songs, and to give students an idea of the culture of the country too, which is an important part of learning a language. Our team is a dynamic group of enthusiastic practitioners, who are passionate about teaching languages.
