Health and Social Care
Health and Social Care is a part of a large and enthusiastic Humanities and Social Sciences department. The department currently consists of nine teachers that teach across Humanities and the Key Stages.
All students study Health and Social Care in Key Stage 3 as part of their technology rotation. In Year 7, 8, and 9 students have two lessons a week for one half term. Students in Year 10 and 11 will complete five lessons per fortnight. The subject continues to be the most popular option choice. At KS3 we do Health and Social care in rotation each half term. Year 7s will have a focus on the NHS and Careers, as well as exploring the impact and benefits of therapy dogs and service dogs. At year 8 we take out analytical skills and look at first aid and important emergency medical interventions which will assist our students later in life, such as the recovery position and when to use CPR. Year 9 we give our students the oppitunity to investigate a more focused approach on a health and social care setting: Prisons. We explore the purpose of rehabilitation and apply some GCSE content to prepare those students who opt to pick the course as a GCSE.
