Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) forms an essential part of student life across the schools in the Gosport and Fareham Multi Academy Trust. We recognise effective careers guidance raises aspirations, improves motivation and reduces barriers to success. The aim of our Careers education programme is to broaden horizons and to develop the skills and attitudes to enable all students to make effective and informed decisions about their future education, training and employment pathways.

All of our students have access to a planned and progressive programme alongside tailored support, enabling them to develop and apply the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to make realistic career decisions for the modern world.

We are proud to be working towards fully achieving the Quality in Careers Standard. Our programme is based around the Gatsby Benchmarks, a nationally recognised framework of best practice for Careers education, and delivered through a combination of Careers-focused days, assemblies and presentations, tutor time sessions, mentoring, curriculum-based learning, workplace visits, 1:1 guidance and events. We welcome guest speakers from local and national employers, education and training providers, to raise awareness of all routes to employment and to highlight the advances in apprenticeships, technical and vocational pathways to all our learners from Year 7 to 13.

To enhance our provision, demonstrate value and inform continuous improvement, the effectiveness of our Careers programme is reviewed annually using a Plan-Do-Review-Act model. The impact of our programme is measured by analysing destination data, monitoring trends and levels of student engagement, together with feedback from key stakeholders including students, staff, parents and employers. We use the Compass+ tool provided by The Careers and Enterprise Company to measure progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks and identify any gaps in provision.

Our Careers team is committed to ensuring all our learners experience high quality Careers education together with individually tailored information, advice and guidance; all members of the team undertake regular training to ensure their knowledge is fresh and up to date. Our Trust Lead for Careers is a member of the Career Development Institute (CDI) and has a Level 7 qualification in Careers Leadership.

Our in-house Careers Advisors are also CDI members and qualified to at least Level 6 in Careers Guidance and Development. They provide tailored and impartial advice and guidance, are on the Professional Register and fully abide by the CDI Code of Ethics. To ensure every student across the Trust is able to access 1:1 guidance, whatever their level of need, we have additional Level 6 qualified Careers Advisors who work across the GFM on a contracted basis.

Our GFM Careers site contains a wealth of information to support students with their next steps and Post-14, Post-16 and Post-18 choices, including information on apprenticeships, traineeships/study programmes, college and university. The site has up to date information on local events, live vacancies and apprenticeship opportunities, different industries and sectors, labour market information, accessing the world of work and routes into employment.

The information detailed on this page is reviewed throughout the academic year with the next formal review scheduled for Autumn 2023. If you have any questions, please contact Nicki Craven, Trust Lead for Careers ncraven@gfmat.org.
