‘Live Theatre Trips’

2:22 A Ghost Story

In preparation for the GCSE Component 3 written examination (40% of GCSE), we visited The Mayflower Theatre to watch their production of ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’ on Thursday 13th November 2025, starring Kevin Clifton and Stacey Dooley. Written by Danny Robins, creator of the hit BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, 2:22 A Ghost Story had record-breaking seasons at five West End theatres with a host of acclaimed star performances. It’s a brilliantly funny and adrenaline-filled night where secrets emerge and ghosts may or may not appear… What do you believe? And do you dare discover the truth?

This production is a firm favourite of the Drama department, and we try to take the students to see it every chance we get!

Hamilton

We were given the privilege to be one of the Mayflower’s invited schools for this performance on Tuesday 1st April 2025, where they paid for our travel and gave us a reduced ticket price, meaning we could take many more students to have this great theatrical experience. This time we decided to take the Year 9 students who had opted for GCSE Drama, we wanted to start their journey on the GCSE early by inviting them to see some live theatre! Hamilton is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the very foundations of the America we know today. The score blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and broadway – the story of America then, as told by America now.

Our students were so excited to see this award winning show that has been so popular over recent years!

Girl on the Train

In preparation for the GCSE Component 3 written examination (40% of GCSE), we visited Chichester Festival Theatre to watch their production of ‘Girl on the Train’ on Thursday 27th February 2025, starring Giovanna Fletcher. Based on the best selling novel by Paula Hawkins, ‘Girl on the Train’ is described as the thriller that gripped the world. Rachel Watson longs for a different life. Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.

This was a performance with so many twists and turns, it left us all on the edge of our seats. We would love to see it again!

Ghost – The Musical

We were given the privilege to be one of the Mayflower’s invited schools for this performance on Wednesday 12th February 2025, where they paid for our travel and gave us a reduced ticket price, meaning we could take many more students to have this great theatrical experience. The movie Ghost is one of cinema’s biggest all-time hits. Starring the late Patrick Swayze alongside Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, it was the highest grossing film of 1990 and won an Oscar for screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin who has adapted his screenplay for this musical.

Walking back to their apartment late one night, a tragic encounter sees Sam murdered and his beloved girlfriend Molly alone, in despair and utterly lost. But with the help of a phony storefront psychic, Sam, trapped between this world and the next, tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving her from grave danger…

It was great as teachers to bring the iconic 90s film we grew up with to a new generation with this trip!

Here you will find updates of all the extra-curricular opportunities we have to offer, past and present.

‘Matilda’ Whole School Production

We were filled with pride watching the ‘Matilda Family’ cast and crew collaborate on this project with us and for some, this is their first performance in front of an audience. From that first moment in auditions where we were met with a queue reaching out of the Drama Centre doors, we knew this was going to be something special. It has really brought our community together and it was wonderful to see how many of our students were involved from Year 7 right up to our BTEC Level 3 students.
‘Even if you’re little, you can do a lot’.
‘Matilda Jr’ is a gleefully funny story showing the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! The musical premiered in the West End in 2010 and is based on Roald Dahl’s best-selling novel of the same name. With the recent release of ‘Matilda the Musical’ in cinemas, our students were thrilled to take on the roles of Matilda, Miss Trunchbull, Miss Honey and more.

Arts University Bournemouth

Some of our wonderful GCSE Drama students went to Arts University Bournemouth on Thursday 16th November for a tour, careers talk and to watch a theatrical production of ‘Thérèse. The students were fantastic and were complimented on their maturity and respectfulness. We cannot wait to see how the trip inspires them!

Museum by Torchlight

Over the past 10 years we have been involved in Gosport Museum and Art Gallery’s ‘Museum by Torchlight’ events where students dress up and spook visitors in the dark with their ghostly appearances. This year we are very excited to be working with The Diving Museum in Gosport for their first torchlight style event. We cannot wait to get started!
Wendy, from the Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: “The students were amazing and really helped to bring our building to life through the characters they became. “We received lots of praise and positive feedback from the visitors to the event. The young people were a credit to your school and should all be very proud of themselves. We really appreciate the students and teachers giving up their time in the half term to make our event a success.”

‘Clue’ – Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th September 2022

The Drama team were excited to present ‘Clue: High School Edition’ with a talented team of students from KS3 all the way up to our Level 3 BTEC Performing students. From the actors on stage, to the backstage crew, the commitment of all of our students and staff brought this incredible show together.
Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was based on the classic Hasbro board game, ‘Clue’ is a hilarious farce-meets-murder-mystery.
When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by the butler, Mr. Wadsworth, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs White, Mr. Green, Mrs Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up.

Bridgemary Library – 7th July 2022

On Thursday 7th July, our Year 8 Global Curriculum students performed to students from Alver Valley School at Bridgemary Library. This event was a collaboration between the GFM Performing Arts Department and Gosport Libraries to engage youngsters in the Summer Reading Challenge. Our students created a ‘living installation’ where the audience could interact with the performance. They were exceptional in their interactions with the younger students and their performances were well received.
