Welcome to the KGA Brune Park Music. Our music development plan for the 2024-2025 academic year highlights the exciting opportunities available to our students. We offer a rich curriculum in music education, both during lessons and through co-curricular activities, supported by Hampshire Music Service. Whether through classroom-based learning, instrument lessons, or participation in school musicals and concerts, we aim to nurture every student’s musical talent. Additionally, we provide subsidised lessons and create bespoke experiences for students with SEND, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the joy of music.

Music

Music is a thriving subject within the school life at Brune Park School. The department encourages participation by all regardless of age or ability.

The Music department consists of two specialist teachers and is located in its own block, containing well-equipped classrooms, an ICT suite, and practise rooms. We have a strong team of peripatetic teachers that provide tuition on many different instruments. A contribution of £85 is required every term, towards the cost of the instrumental/singing lessons which last 30 minutes and rotate every week during the school day, so that the students do not miss the same academic lessons every week. They are given the opportunity to take grade examinations and we regularly celebrate our students’ achievements.

In addition to lessons, a range of enrichment activities are offered including Young Voices, KS3 Music club which allows the students to try any instruments that we have available in the classroom and the KS4 rehearsal club for our KS4 students to develop and hone their musical skills. We also have a percussion club led by our drum teacher, Mr Roman. Our students take part in various concerts and events throughout the year, both on site and in the local area.

KS4 Curriculum Overview (Years 10-11)

At Brune Park, we study BTEC Tech Award level 2 in Music Practice at KS4.

There are 3 components within the Specification:

Component 1 (60 marks): Exploring Music Products and Styles.

This component allows the students to explore a variety of styles of music, understanding the key features of the styles and the use of musical elements. This leads to performance and composition activities. The students will not only look at popular and contemporary genres, but also World music, Fusion, Music for Media, Western Classical Music and Jazz.

Component 2 (60 marks): Music Skills Development. Students will have the opportunity top develop two musical disciplines through engagement in practical taks, while documenting their progress and planning for further improvement.

In this component the students will work to their strengths and can select two of Music Performance, Creating Original Music and Music Production to demonstrate their skills.

Component 3: Responding to a Music Brief (60 marks).  This component allows the students to work to their strengths and interests, presenting their final work as a solo or group performance, an audio recording or a Digital Audio Workstation project.
